Babies 6 – 18 months
Star cluster is designed to meet the development level of your child. Caregivers are taught the correct holds and cues. While Babies learn how to safely enter and exit the pool and confidence in and under the water. As they progress they learn how to kick, turn around, roll onto their backs to float and swim back to the side. -
Toddlers 18 – 36 months
Star Party is designed to progress your child to the next level and prepare for Asteroid - Weaner classes. Toddlers spend a little more time navigating the pool and going under the water (as they feel comfortable). As they progress they learn how to pick objects up off the bottom of the pool, float on their front and back, play games, sing and have fun.
One 30 minute lesson per week

Weaner
As suggested by the name "weaner" this class will encourage children to wean themselves off their caregiver and be confident in the water without them. Over the period of 10 weeks, caregivers can start to move away giving the child space and encouraging them to listen to their instructor and not depend on their caregiver. -
Beginner
Eclipse is a great place to start for young swimmers with no formal lessons. Swimmers learn to be comfortable navigating around in the pool, safe entry and exit, blowing bubbles, and setting the foundations for comfortable submerging. -
Confident beginners
Comet swimmers are confident to be in the water and are looking forward to learning new skills. Swimmers learn how to safely enter and exit the pool. Navigate around the pool, submerging comfortably and gaining skills to learn to float. The emphasis is on basic water skills that prepare the way for learning how to swim. -
Begin float
Earthshine teaches swimmers the skills to be brave enough to take their feet off the bottom of the pool and lie in the water in a horizontal position. Playing games and singing songs whilst learning fundamental water skills. -
Float stroke
Meteor swimmers learn to streamline and lie on surface of the water on their front and back. Big arm circles. Fast kicking feet. Lots of splashing and fun! -
3 – 5 stroke
Equinox swimmers are developing a strong streamline position. This means their eyes are down and they have rhythmic and controlled big arms and a fast kick. They will also learn how to be confident and relaxed floating on their back. -
5m Start breathing drills
Once our swimmers have big arms, a fast kick, long streamline position and are very comfortable on their back they are ready to learn their breathing. During this stage we will teach them the skills to breathe on their side in freestyle and swim a length backstroke. -
7 - 10m learn breathing
Shooting star swimmers are focusing on learning how to turn onto their side and take a breath whilst their ear is on their arm. Swimmers learn to swim competently and confidently for 15m on their front and back with their body in the correct position. With a focus on enjoying their time in the water with their classmates and instructor. -
1 front / 1 back
Retrograde swimmers are learning how to swim 15m on their front and back. Swimmers learn to roll and breath, kick fast in the streamline position. Swimming 15m without stopping or putting their twinkle toes on the bottom of the pool. Always with some enjoyment in the water with their classmates. -
2 front / 2 back
Solstice swimmers will develop the ability to swim 2 X 15m laps easily and with good body position in both freestyle and backstroke. Solstice is about consolidating what they have learnt so far, before they start to learn beautiful breastroke. -
30m front / back learn breaststroke
Twilight swimmers while still having fun, will further developing freestyle backstroke and building on their stamina. Swimmers learn how to breaststroke, first with the kick, then arms. -
30m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke
Terminator swimmers will learn tumble turns and butterfly kick. To get them ready for the 25m pool lengths are increased. Consolidating all 3 strokes over 30m with increased fitness.

STROKE DEVELOPMENT
Swimmer to instructor ratio is approx. 8:1
Classes are 25-30mins

Lightyear swimmers will develop confidence in the bigger, deeper pool whilst improving their ability in 25m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. They will gain an understanding of tumble turns and butterfly kick. Introduction to diving technique.

Double Star swimmers will develop their abilities in 50m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. They will work on increasing stamina, stroke technique improvement and continue to work on tumble turns, dives and butterfly kick.

Blue Moon swimmers will develop their ability in 100m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke with the aim of increasing the distance. They will continue improving butterfly kick, diving and tumble turns skills.

Super Nova swimmers will continue to develop their abilities with the aim to easily swim 200m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. They will also work on increased confidence with all aquatic activities.

WAI WAHINE
Our Wai Wahine sessions cater for beginner wahine right through to advanced. Comet's mission is to keep our community safer, in, on and around the water. Often the best place to start is with our beautiful women! These classes will be designed to bring you more confidence in the water, so you, your whānau and friends can enjoy more aquatic activities safely.
Mixed adult group sessions are available on request. Please enquire today.
