Established in 1958.

Comet Swimming Club, Tairawhiti’s longest standing swimming club, has been a proud part of our community for generations — championing not just swimmers, but whanau wellbeing and lifelong water safety. At the heart of the club is a deep commitment to our tamariki, nurturing their water confidence from the very first splash through to becoming strong, capable swimmers.

Comet believes that every child deserves the skill of swimming — not just for sport, but for safety, for joy, for hauora, and for a lifelong connection to our moana and waterways.

Each week, our dedicated team delivers water safety education, learn-to-swim, and squad programs to more than 1,000 students across our district — a testament to our reach and impact. Whether you're just starting out with baby swim classes, wanting to build confidence as an adult, or training at a competitive level, Comet has a place for everyone.

With a strong whanau focus, a legacy grounded in aroha, and a belief in equity of access, Comet Swimming Club continues to uplift and empower our community through the life-changing, life-saving skill of swimming.

Comet Swimming is anchored in the aspirations of tamariki, whanau and our kaimahi.
